Capturing the Energy of PEAKEFEST: A Celebration of Connection, Confidence and Colour
The buzz began even before the main event started. The night before PEAKEFEST officiallykicked off, speakers and organisers gathered for a relaxed dinner—an eveningof laughter, connection and anticipation for the two days ahead. Over dinner, guests shared stories, swapped insights, and joined in a Q&A with some of the incredible speakers who wouldsoon take to the stage. It was the perfect way to begin what would become a vibrant, high-energy celebration of ideas, learning and community near the NEC in Birmingham
A Festival of Speaking and Connection
Hosted by Nicola Peake and expertly emceed by Washington Ali, PEAKEFEST spanned multiple spaces, each designed to inspire interaction, creativity and collaboration.
From the moment guests arrived, it was clear this wasn’t your typical business event. The venue was brought to life by bold, imaginative branding from Claire Huggins, filled with colour, energy and a dash of wildlife flair. Think tropical hues, playful parrots, and the event’s much-loved mascot, Zammy the zebra, who even made an appearance as a life-sized model in the selfie area.
The vibrant design reflected Nicola’s joyful brand perfectly and provided an excellent backdrop for event photography.
Across the two days, a wealth of speakers took to the stage, from established thought leaders sharing valuable insights to emerging voices stepping into the spotlight for the first time. Each talk brought something unique, from personal stories to practical strategies, all delivered with authenticity and heart.
Spaces to Learn, Connect and Recharge
Beyond the main stage, attendees explored the expo area, a lively space where businesses and UK brands showcased their work, shared ideas, and networked in a supportive, festival-like atmosphere.
There were dedicated zones for relaxation and reflection too, sponsored by Charlotte Dover and Jo ‘Happiness’ Howarth, providing both calm, sensory spaces for those who needed a quiet break from the buzz, and spaces hosting mini-workshops, wellbeing sessions and intimate discussions, reinforcing the inclusive, community-driven spirit that makes events like PEAKEFEST so special.
Even the ingenious bespoke fidget toys provided on the tables became a talking point.
One particularly innovative feature was the silent seminars held during lunch breaks. Guests popped on headphones to tune into inspiring talks, learning and connecting even amidst the lively hum of conversation around them. It’s a clever concept that balances engagement and accessibility, and I loved listening to the talks while photographing them.
Day one ended with an after party, which gave the young DJ a chance to shine, and everyone else an opportunity to let their hair down and have a dance.
New Voices, Bold Stories
The second day continued with the same infectious enthusiasm as the first. Alongside experienced keynote voices, there was space for Nicola’s Emerging Speakers’ programme, many stepping onto the stage for the first time after completing Taz Thornton’s Heart of Speaking course.
For these new speakers, this was more than just an event; it was a milestone moment. The combination of excitement, nerves and pride was palpable, and as a photographer, capturing those raw, empowering emotions felt particularly special.
These moments of growth and visibility are exactly what events like PEAKEFEST are about, helping people step forward with confidence, share their stories, and be seen. The shift in confidence and sense of empowerment in people afterwards is palpable.
Through the Lens: A Photographer’s Perspective
From a professional event photography perspective, PEAKEFEST was an absolute joy to capture. My brief was multi-layered, to document the experience for Nicola and her team, while also creating high-quality speaker assets that could be used long after the event.
These professional photographs are vital for anyone building a personal brand, securing speaking opportunities, or promoting future events.
Event photography isn’t just about documentation, it’s about storytelling. My goal is always to capture the emotion, atmosphere and energy that make each event unique. From candid audience reactions to moments of connection in the expo space, every image contributes to the visual narrative of the day.
While smartphones are brilliant for sharing real-time excitement, and updating social media stories on what you are up to, professional photography ensures that the event is remembered and represented at its very best. Managing challenging lighting, stage dynamics and timing all play a role in creating polished, purposeful imagery that conveys credibility, connection and professionalism.
Reflecting on the PEAKEFEST Experience
What stood out most to me throughout PEAKEFEST was the atmosphere. Everywhere I looked, there was warmth, colour and genuine connection. From heartfelt talks to spontaneous laughter, every moment reflected the inclusive, supportive community that Nicola has built.
The event balanced high energy with authenticity, proving that professionalism and playfulness can absolutely go hand in hand.
PEAKEFEST wasn’t just a speaker event, it was about celebrating visibility, sharing knowledge and empowering voices. And as a photographer, that’s what I love most to capture, real people, real stories, and the beauty of confidence in action.
In Closing
From bold branding to heartfelt moments, PEAKEFEST 2025 was a celebration of creativity, courage and community. It was a privilege to capture the event and tell its story through imagery, moments that reflect both the personality of the people involved and the spirit of the experience itself.
If you’re hosting a live event across the UK, and want to ensure the energy, emotion and impact of your day are captured authentically, I’d love to help.
